How to Draw a Bottlenose Dolphin
Step 1:
Begin by drawing a large, smooth, slightly curved line that dips down, which will become the dolphin’s back and the base for its body.
Step 2:
Extend the line to create the dolphin’s belly, gently curving it upwards towards the tail. Add a slight bump above the curve for the dolphin’s head.
Step 3:
Add detailed lines and draw a circle for the eye. Add the dolphin’s blowhole on the top of its head.
Step 4:
Detail the snout with the dolphin’s smile line and draw the lower jaw. The shape of the head should now be recognizable as a dolphin’s.
Step 5:
Draw the pectoral fin, starting from the bottom curve of the belly and curving it back towards the tail. Make sure it’s smooth and rounded.
Step 6:
Add the dolphin’s dorsal fin on the top of the back with a slight backward curve.
Step 7:
Sketch the tail, starting with two lines extending from the back and belly curves.
Step 8:
At the end of these lines, draw the flukes with a slight indentation in the middle, resembling a wavy “W” shape.
Step 9:
Sketch the dorsal fin on the middle of the back of the bottlenose dolphin.
Step 10:
Finally, add color to your dolphin. Typically, bottlenose dolphins have a grayish-blue back with a lighter underside. Add subtle shading to indicate the roundness of the body and the texture of the skin.
