Meteor Facts

Did you know that meteors are often called “shooting stars” even though they are not stars at all? When a meteoroid enters Earth’s atmosphere, it burns up and creates a bright streak of light, which we see as a meteor. If a meteor survives its journey through the atmosphere and lands on Earth, it is called a meteorite. Meteor showers occur when Earth passes through the debris left by comets, creating spectacular displays in the night sky.
